Massage is a wonderful way to relieve pain during childbirth. However, everyone is different, and a lot of women don’t like to be touched during labour, so aromatherapy massage isn’t ideal for all. However, you can use the essential oils in a variety of ways, as you will read below.
Essential oils can be used to create a relaxing, comfortable and stress-free environment for your labour, and when diffused in the delivery room, will help welcome your new baby into a cleansed, wonderfully-smelling room with a familiar scent. What a lovely way to enter the world!
Lavender and clary sage are two essential oils that are perfect (and recommended) for childbirth as they promote peace and relaxation. Inhaling these oils between contractions can enhance strength, stamina and endurance levels during delivery. They are a great way to boost your confidence during the pain.
As we’ve mentioned above, massage is a fantastic way for relieving pain during labour (if you want to be touched!). Ask your birthing partner to firmly massage your lower back as soon as you contractions start; this will help ease muscular pain, and also the feeling of being touched will help you feel more confident, and give you the comfort and reassurance required to assist you through labour. Talk to Lucy about creating a blend of oils that will be perfect for labour massage and tailor-made for you.
